Over the past weeks here in North Carolina and across the nation, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants whose only “crime” has been to seek a better life for themselves and their families.
These raids, arrests, and deportations have reversed a long-standing federal pollicy of “targeting” the enforcement of federal immigration laws primarily against those undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes in the United States and have resulted in an unprecedented level of fear within immigrant communities and the separation of families.
ICE officials have said that this is the “new norm” and say that they’ve been forced to take these actions because local law enforcement agencies are no longer cooperating with ICE.
But that’s just an excuse and we can’t let the “new normal” become normal.
Here are some ways that you can act now against ICE raids in North Carolina.
Contact Governor Cooper by phone (919 814 2000) or email to demand that he speak out against these ICE raids which have terrorized the immigrant community and separated hundreds of people from their families.
