Support the Rights of Transgender Prisoners

According to an article in the Raleigh News & Observer, officials at the Harnett Correctional Institution in Lillington have been requiring a post-surgical female transgender prisoner to share a dormitory with male inmates and shower with male inmates. They have also failed to provide her with female underclothes or act on her request to be transferred to a prison for women despite an official state policy that requires prison officials to provide gender-appropriate undergarments and housing for transgender prisoners.

That’s just not right!

Please email or call (919 814-2000) Governor Roy Cooper, Secretary of Public Safety Erik Hooks (919 733 2126), and Deputy Secretary of Public Safety Reuben Young (919 838 4000) and tell them that’s not the way North Carolina should treat transgender people.
